A brush with history: painting a garden mural at Castlehaven Community Park
Wed 1 June, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm BST
An event every day that begins at 12:00 pm, repeating until Fri 3 June, 2016
Paint a picture of Camden’s past at Castlehaven Community Park.
As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations we will be painting a unique mural charting the history of the site. Two centuries ago it was open fields (called Field Number 7). Thirty years ago it was a derelict concrete waste land. Today, we have established a community park and planted a mini-orchard of varied fruit trees and hundreds of plants. The next steps for our four acre site are establishing a nature reserve, new horticultural hub with training classes and local food growing, re-landscaping parts of the site, and recruiting an environment projects and garden manager to help make this all happen, and support existing and new volunteers.
The park is close to Camden market and opposite the Hawley Arms pub. The mural will be on a wall by the path which circles the garden and the painting will sit within the landscape, including a large London plane tree next to the wall. We are looking at planting too to blend with the mural. As well as giving a glimpse into the fields once gracing the site it will also depict trees, birds and plants associated with our gardens as well as the railways and canals and people that have shaped the history of the area and our space. It will bring to life and connect this part of an urban garden to its history and location.
We are working with Positive Arts, one of the most respected street art companies. The community painting sessions will take place on 1, 2 and 3 June, 12-5pm – you come for all or some of the time.
To take part come to 23 Castlehaven Road, London, NW1 8RU. Please email email@example.com or call us on 020 7485 3386 if you are interested so we have an idea of numbers.
