“When Life Gives You Lemons, Make a Cocktail”. Following the renaissance of Gin, Cocktails are back! And one of their key ingredients, BITTERS, are enjoying renewed interest. At the same time “health gurus” are suggesting that re-introducing bitter herbs and foods into to our diets may be beneficial for gut health.
Come along to “THE HERB BOAT”, a narrowboat that roams the waterways of England which will be moored in Hackney Wick, and explore the history of Bitters through a small (it’s on a boat!) outdoor display. See and smell some of the unusual botanicals (herbs, spices, roots, barks and berries) used in their production and find out how you could make them yourself using plants in your garden.
Bunny, the owner of The Herb Boat will be on hand to demonstrate throughout the day. There will be a limited supply of BITTERS KITS available to buy at a Chelsea Fringe special price of £5. The kit contains a Bitters bottle and other equipment, and allows you to choose a selection of essential ingredients to take home and have a go yourself.
The Herb Boat will be moored on the Lea Navigation, just off White Post Lane on the edge of
the Olympic Park, Hackney Wick
