Exploring the connection between design and horticulture, Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour is supporting Chelsea Fringe with an engaging installation inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s famous Majorelle Garden. Featuring on-trend cacti in the latest designs, it pushes creative boundaries by presenting an exotic garden in an entirely new way.
One of the greatest names in fashion history, Yves Saint Laurent discovered the Majorelle Garden in 1966 during his first visit to Marrakech, later commenting that he was ‘seduced by the oasis where colours used by Matisse were mixed with nature’. In recognition of its unique beauty, the fun pop-up features over-scaled cacti, succulents and desert plants in different forms, shapes and sizes, complemented by pots in the famous Majorelle blue and cushions in a hot colour palette.
Visitors can seek out further fabrics, wallpapers, outdoor furniture, tiles, accessories, trimmings and rugs, all inspired by the great outdoors, in the showrooms.
The fifth edition of Chelsea Fringe – the alternative garden festival – brings together art, design, poetry, music, science and food with a horticultural focus for three weeks of events, across London, the UK and four international satellite fringe festivals.
