Creating a friendly library garden
Tue 26 May, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm BST
Gardens can be friendly to people, plants, wildlife but also to ideas and creativity. Come, during library opening hours, to see displays of what local schoolchildren consider ‘makes a library friendly’, as part of a City Council funded collaboration between Friends of Rock Road Library, social enterprise Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination, Morley Memorial Primary School, and County Council Library Services.
Their ideas will inspire Debbie Hall, a willow artist, and Papworth OWL students and staff to create ‘friendly’ willow structures and new planting in the community garden attached to this suburban branch library.
During school half-term holiday week (26 May to 30 May), there will be free, drop-in, artist-led workshops related to the project and for all ages and abilities. Using drawings, paint, clay and words to tell stories and make a patterned story tent. See the CCI website for more information.
The Friends would also be delighted to welcome other artists to use the library and its community garden as a stage for their work, during the Fringe and afterwards. The garden willow and other developments will be accessible and free for you to enjoy after the festival. See the library page on the South Cambridge webpage for updates and library opening hours.
