Daubeney Garden Show
Sat 26 May, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm BSTFree
Clapton Park Open Day, Homerton, Hackney.
See how a Hackney neighbourhood is making its streets 10 x greener.
Start at the Sparrowhawk newly painted on the wall of a house on Daubeney Road E5. Walk down the street past the street planting residents have done for a Friends of the Earth project. Stop at the end of the street and listen to how local people built a community garden there on a derelict car park. Spot the 40 year old mural of the great Kew Gardens glasshouse peaking through creepers on a wall. Admire the beautiful garden gate, welded with reclaimed gardening tools, the unique round green-roof garden shed converted from a giant cable drum and the Little Free Library. Stroll past the garden’s green wall and grow tubs, decorated by children from the local school, and visit the bees at the end of the garden. Learn about out our plans for future greening of the area.
From the garden continue down Daubeney Road and visit the Hackney Forest School. See how children are learning to garden and engage with nature. Enjoy live music, outdoor art, smoothies and BBQ food.
Then start on a guided tour of the legendary Clapton Park ‘Poppy Estate’. John Little, the estate gardener, will show you how he has worked with local residents to plant 260 fruit trees and bushes, 54 allotments and 500m of wildflower edges.
Tours leave at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm.
