Edible Avenue – Pot it up!
Sat 21 May, 2016 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm BSTFree
Welcome to Edible Avenue!
Inspired by New Covent Garden Market’s bounty of fresh produce, what was once a grey and congested thoroughfare is going to be turned into an interactive streetscape in time for Summer. Traditional white picket fences will emerge from the neighbouring market’s boundary wall along Thessaly Road SW8 to form welcoming community seating and planted green spaces to enjoy.
To get the community involved The Edible Bus Stop® are holding a potting up event and will be presenting their designs at a community consultation. All are welcome to come along and plant up young herb plants which can be taken home to nurture and then replant into the scheme once the planters are built in June – or participants are welcome to keep them!
By using food growing as a tool to connect people, the aspiration is for Thessaly Road to become a community of growers, empowered and enabled through a range of horticultural activities and interventions to create a better environment for all to enjoy. The aim is to get local people of all ages involved with the new planting spaces to share gardening skills and encourage conversations between each other.
The Edible Bus Stop are a South London based design and landscape architecture practice. They specialise in creating playful landmarks for areas that are otherwise bland, underused or unloved spaces. Come along to this event, meet the team, see the designs, take part in a survey and plant up some delicious herbs!
