From the Ground Up
Sat 16 May, 2015
From the Ground Up is a site-specific installation of ceramic flowers located on the island at Jesus Lock in Cambridge made by learning-disabled students, staff and volunteers from Cambridge charity Rowan. Visitors are invited to view the installation from the footbridge over the River Cam or on the footpath alongside the river.
Each flower has been individually crafted and together, they create a meadow of coloured, textured bobbing flowers that catch the breeze creating waving patterns reflective of the water surrounding the island and evocative of gardens and meadows.
Rowan is a Cambridge based arts centre and charity where artists and craftspeople work with learning-disabled students in 5 studios: woodwork, ceramics, printmaking, textiles and mixed-media. As well as creating their own projects, students work on private and public commissions and take part in exhibitions and events throughout the year.
