Sgt Pepper at Chiswick House and Gardens
Sat 20 May, 2017
An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until Sun 4 June, 2017
Follow in the footsteps of the Fab Four, visiting the Exedra, the Wilderness, Inigo Jones archway and Conservatory and “Get Back” to where the Beatles made music history half a century ago.
To celebrate 50 years since the release of The Beatles Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club album, Chiswick House and Gardens will host an extraordinary garden installation in partnership with Gavin Jones Ltd, recreating the infamous album cover in front of the Ionic Temple.
It was here in May 1966, that the four most famous people on the planet strolled into Chiswick House and Gardens to create two ground-breaking mini films which were to change the course of music history. The Beatles performed “Paperback Writer” and “Rain” in the iconic 18th century gardens for promotional films that were the precursors of today’s ubiquitous music videos.
Chiswick House has been associated with famous musicians from its inception. Its creator, the 3rd Earl of Burlington, was one of England’s leading patron of the arts, and his salon at Chiswick included such luminaries as Handel. Chiswick House will be open for visitors to explore all weekend, with exclusive free tours* taking place at 2:30pm each day.
For this special weekend, (20-21 May) our Kitchen Garden will be open where you can purchase Chiswick House produce and our Gardens Team will be on hand to share their expert advice. Plant Heritage will also be in the Kitchen Garden selling a variety of plants.
Collect your map of the Gardens from the Chiswick House shop and begin your Beatles adventure!
*Entry fee to Chiswick House applies. Free tours have a capacity of 25 guests, places are offered on a first come first served basis.
