Natura Morta – Saturday 23 May, 11am-11pm – Sunday 24 May, 11am-7pm
Artist Erola Arcalís presents for the first time Natura Morta in a temporary installation that will take place in Dalston Eastern Curve Garden on the weekend of 23 and 24 May.
Taking plants as the main subject of interest, her practice makes use of the photographic still life language. Yet, the very idea of this language is questioned by capturing the botanical subjects while they are still alive.
Erola describes her work:
‘In the perennial and fragile conditions of plants, I see the potential to build a new perception of ‘the real’. Through manipulation of the subject, I objectify and explore the meaning of ‘the being’.’
Erola stages and puts the plant in an artificial context, reinterpreting its essential attributes. The physical intervention responds at the same time to a will to satisfy and experience a certain ideal image.
