Plant It Up – Scale Rule’s Next Generation Design Pavilion
Mon 21 May, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm BSTFree
Scale Rule’s Next Generation Design Pavilion returns to Clerkenwell Design Week this year. The winning concept, ‘5 Sense’ responded to the theme of sustainability by proposing a sensitive metaphor: layers representing past, present and future will create a kaleidoscopic oculus, inviting visitors to take a moment to direct their eyes up and become more aware of key natural elements around them. Located in St. James’ Churchyard, the pavilion will create a new focal point, realising a design conceived by GCSE students from around London.
The Edible Bus Stop and Scale Rule volunteers, worked with the students to help put their ideas to paper and start the process that will eventually see the pavilion come to life. The students were keen to have planted elements and we naturally encouraged them. The Pavillion will stay in situ over summer and then will move onto a new permanent home in London.
We invite you to come along and help us PLANT IT UP on Monday 21st May 5:00pm – 7:30pm. This is a unique opportunity to be part of 2 London festivals at the same time! Marrying the Chelsea Fringe with Clerkenwell Design Week and encouraging the next generation to look at how they’d design the world. We’ll provide the tools, gloves, the plants and some jolly banter.
Every year Scale Rule’s Next Generation Design Pavilion aims to inspire a younger generation to work in construction-related professions. The pavilion is a result of a series of educational workshops led by volunteer industry professionals, bringing GCSE students together from across London. The project is generously supported by AKT II, Grimshaw, Jewson, WUP Doodle, Simply Rhino and Callprint.
