Shout Out for London’s Green Spaces!
Sat 20 May, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm BSTFree
Right now people all over the world are protesting for what they believe in and Londoners are standing up for the many precious green spaces that are under threat. In an area where there is little green space, Hackney residents have been raising their voices in recent months to say how much they value the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden.
Now over one weekend (21 – 22 May) of creative protest activity, we are inviting you to join in and shout out for the trees, the plants, the bees, the bugs and all of our green spaces – and share why they matter to you.
Hackney artist Emily Tracy will lead drop-in sessions where you can make your own demonstration placard, using printing, painting and collage techniques. Visitors will be invited to create a multitude of messages, whether they are about trees, nature, the right to green space, or imagining what beetles, birds and bees would shout out for if they could speak for themselves. Over the weekend, all of the placards will become part of one huge growing art installation to fill the Garden for this year’s Chelsea Fringe.
On Saturday, Protesters need parties too, so in among all the placard making, you will be able to grab a pizza, a drink, listen to DJ Newton Ace and have a chat with the conversationalists from Open East Radio, who will be broadcasting their live monthly internet radio show from the Garden, 2-4pm.
Adults and children are all welcome to make a placard, but children must be accompanied by an adult
Activities are free, but donations are welcome.
