The Inner Temple presents ‘The Great Garden Fête’
Sun 20 May, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm BSTFree
Once again the historic Inner Temple Garden will be opening its gates for the Chelsea Fringe festival. This year the Inner Temple presents ‘The Great Garden Fête’– a fun day of games, competitions and sheep!
This classic English garden will be bringing a taste of the countryside to the heart of the city, with our friends from Spitalfields City Farm bringing some of their resident sheep and miniature donkeys to festivities.
For those people who enjoy baking or making things, visitors are invited to bring along entries for the competitions for a chance to win the much coveted prize of Best in Show and a bottle of champagne for each category.
The categories include:
- ‘The Great Bake Off’
- ‘ The Mini Posy Championship’
- ‘The Fruit and Vegetable Sculpture Showdown’
There are no limits but suggested inspirations for the ‘Bake off’ and ‘Sculpture Showdown’ could include personalities, landmarks or gardens.
People do not have to pre-register, just turn up on the day with their entries and register them to be judged before 12pm. People can enter all the categories if they wish. Visitors will then have till around 1pm to register their vote, before they are counted and the awards announced at 1.30pm.
There is both an adult and child prize for each category.
There will also be classic Fête games for people to enjoy including Sack Races and Trowel and Potato races with the prize winners of these being announced during the awards ceremony.
After the Prizes have been announced, the entries to ‘The Great Bake Off’ will be sliced up for people’s enjoyment, raising funds towards Mental Health Awareness Week. Any donations raised throughout the day will go to this charity.
Earlier in the day visitors will be able to ‘Ask the Gardener’, bringing any questions related to their gardens to a professional gardener, whilst taking part in a plant ident for those keen gardeners out there. The Garden team’s trusty tractors will be on display, with adults and children alike invited to have their photos taken on them.
Bringing a piece of the continent, music will be provided by ‘Amaraterra’ the first pizzica ensemble in London – who will be playing the traditional music of the village fete from southern Italy from 2pm.
As always, picnics on the lawn are encouraged so please do bring a picnic. There will be refreshments available on site and ice cream eating will be mandatory!
It’s the perfect way to end the festivities of the Royal Wedding weekend. Visitors are welcome to take part or just come to enjoy the garden and its setting, there is plenty to see and space for all.
