The Legacy of John Evelyn and the future at Sayes Court

Deptford, Southeast London was home to one of England’s greatest horticulturists John Evelyn.
At Sayes Court Park we will be exploring John Evelyn writings ‘Kalendarium Hortense’ & ‘Directions for the Gardiner’ at Sayes Court. In this workshop we will discussing history and origins of the plants and flowers he grew here, and we will be sowing current cultivars available today in pots to take away.
You are invited to visit the John Evelyn Community Garden also in Deptford and bring you plant if you choose to form part of the new parterre they are designing and planting over the next two years to coincide with 400th anniversary of this birth in 2020.
Who can attend: All welcome. Children under 16 must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting mucky and stout shoes. Gloves and light refreshments provided.

- From Deptford Station walk east down Deptford High Street and then left on to Evelyn Street and right on to Grove Street - entrance on Grove Street. Take either the 47 bus from Lewisham or Surrey Quays to Abinger Grove. Take 188 or 199 bus from either Canada Water or Surrey Quays toward Lewisham/Bellingham get off at Abinger Grove and head to Grove Street entrance.
