Thrive Selfie Trail

Garden Selfie- 19th – 26th May: As part of Thrive’s 40th birthday celebrations, ‘Garden Selfie’ is a trail around our 4 gardens at Battersea Park encouraging the participant to explore views of the park determined by our gardeners. Frames, designed by Thrive gardeners around the theme of natural creativity, encourage photos to be shared of their experiences in the gardens. Trail maps available from Main Garden throughout the week.
Water colour focus – Sunday, 26th May at 10:30am: Michael Warren – resident artist at Battersea Power Station – inspired by nature or a feature of the local area. For the intermediate to advanced, in a group setting you will hear and share feedback to help progress your work on from any stage.
Words – Sunday, 26th May 2pm: An exploration of endangered flora and fauna in Britain through creative writing. Led by Battersea poet, Hilaire.
Art Hut at Thrive Battersea Park Main Garden- 19th – 26th May: Nature inspired paintings, prints and sculptures. The work is inspired by Thrive gardens, seasons and the wider local area, made by a range of ages and various levels of experience from aspiring to professional.
Thrive uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable. Known as social and therapeutic horticulture – the process of working with plants to improve physical and psychological health, and communication and thinking skills. Using the garden as a safe and secure environment to develop an individual’s ability to socialise, make friends, and gain practical skills that make them more independent and self-reliant. Using gardening tasks and the environment Thrive horticultural therapists build a set of activities for each gardener aimed at improving their health and wellbeing and achieving particular goals identified by the gardener themselves or by their family, support workers or carers. Gardens offer the peace and tranquility needed for rehabilitation and recovery. And, being given the opportunity to develop an interest in gardening will give benefits that can last a life time.
