Walking Tour: 10 Years of Guerrilla Gardening
Sun 31 May, 2015 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm BST
Take a journey through time and space on the floral battle ground that are the streets around Elephant and Castle. It’s been a decade since Richard Reynolds started tending neglected patches of land round here. While some now bloom as local landmarks, others have eventually been flattened by the relentless onslaught of comprehensive redevelopment in one of London’s most dramatically transforming inner city districts.
You’ll learn how the gardens came to be and along the way hear tales of opportunities and obstacles, collaborations and conflicts. We will see roadside gardens, pocket parks and entering the old demolished Heygate Estate to see a two week old community garden called Grow Elephant.
It’s a different story every year at this annual one-off event in Richard’s busy schedule, transforming his neighbourhood and travelling the world sharing tales of guerrilla gardening and connecting with the loose global network of like-minded people he has played a big part in inspiring to garden beyond their boundaries.
