Learning how to recognize tree species is one of the ways to increase citizens’ attachment to the green heritage of their own city. The project consists in a bicycle ride through Milan streets and parks aimed at identifying Milan “important” trees. During the whole festival, several big trees will be equipped with temporary labels provided with QR codes, connected to botanical identification cards. A guided tour led by Dr. Mami Azuma to the herbaria and the xiloteca preserved in the museum warehouse. The herbarium, dated back to 1969 (when the donation of Piazzoli Perroli’s herbarium occurred), contains tracheophytes from Lombardy, Italy, Europe, Brazil, spontaneous and cultivated, besides collections of seaweeds, fungi, lichens, bryophytes, fruits and seeds. Over 30.000 dehydrated pieces are preserved. The warehouses also preserve the interesting xiloteca “R. Cormio”, acquired in 1973.
