ALL ARE WELCOME TO JOIN EXTINCTION REBELLION REBELS PLANTING A WATERLOO BRIDGE ‘PROTEST TREE’ IN WEST NORWOOD
“I’ll be your bridge, your flowering tree
You can still depend on me” Eurythmics
During the now legendary mid-April week of Extinction Rebellion (XR) protests in London (and the off shoots around the world) Waterloo Bridge was turned into a Garden Bridge, for the people, by the people. Many plants and trees were donated by rebels, however, nearly fifty 3-4m trees were brought in to beautify the bridge specifically by the organisation. These trees became known as the protest trees, living rebels of nature standing proudly amongst us.
The Edible Bus Stop have been working closely with XR throughout and are now tasked to rehouse the protest trees into the public realm. They are being re-wilded in schools, adventure playgrounds, community gardens and even a mini garden bridge in Barking. Our aim is to branch out into new communities, taking root to spread the word, to create conversations surrounding the core XR message: This is CLIMATE EMERGENCY, ACT NOW!
Please join us at the Hoopla Pocket Park, on Norwood Road SE27 from 2pm – 5pm Sunday 26th May to plant a beautiful Crab Apple (Malus x moerlandsii ‘Profusion’)
There’ll be other gardening opportunities during the afternoon; you’ll get to meet fellow rebels and to finish off the afternoon, we’ll be serving cake! All rebellions need cake after all…
We breathe in what the trees breathe out, the trees breathe in what we breathe out
